7U Guidelines
Practice & Game Day at 7U
The 7U players are assigned to teams of about 5-7, with two coaches. Each team can have up to four practices in the two weeks leading up to the start of the fall and spring season. Once the season starts, teams practice once a week for one hour. The practice day, time, and location is up to each coach. Games last about one hour and are played 4 v 4 (no goalie).
The registration fee includes a uniform - shirt, shorts, and socks. All players MUST wear shin guards. Either cleats or regular tennis shoes are fine at this age. Long hair should be secured out of the face. Players should bring a size 3 soccer ball.
The Players:
- Numbers: Four per team on field; No goalkeepers. Seven maximum on roster.
- Substitutions: Between periods, at halftime and for injuries.
- Playing Time: Minimum of two periods per game.
Duration of Game:
Typically four five-minute periods. Half time break of 5 minutes.
Official:
There is no need for fully qualified referees to manage 7U games. One or both of the coaches should "officiate". The games are intended to be an opportunity for our players to experience the fun of playing. The barest of minimum rules are needed and should be applied with a generous amount of flexibility. Let the players have the freedom to play with minimum interruption.
